A few words about Rose K lenses.

rose k lensesSince 1995, when the Rose K lens received approval from the FDA, Rose K lenses have become available to eye care specialists in over 50 countries.

In the early stages of keratoconus, distortion of vision can be treated with eyeglasses to correct low degrees of myopia and astigmatism caused by this condition. As keratoconus advances, gas permeable contact lenses are the first choice to correct vision. Most of the time, this is a permanent remedy.

The Rose K lens has a number of features that make it ideal for treating keratoconus:

1. The lenses are designed using complex computer models and are manufactured on special computerized lathes.

2. The complex geometry of Rose K lenses take into account the conical shape of the cornea in all stages of the condition.

3. Lenses can be customized to suit each eye and can correct the myopia and astigmatism associated with the keratoconus of that particular eye.

4. Rose K lenses, or sometimes referred to as Rose-K lenses, allow the cornea to "breathe" oxygen directly through the lens material providing excellent health to the eye while allowing the keratoconus patient to wear the lens for longer hours with greater comfort.

As a result, the entire lens fits better over the eye leading to improved comfort and optimum vision. However, due to the progressive nature of keratoconus, it is extremely important that the Rose K lens is fitted with great care and reassessed at least annually by your contact lens specialist.
